Nigeria Institute of Digital Marketing (NIDM)

Preamble

The Nigeria Institute of Digital Marketing (NIDM) is committed to promoting the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior among its members. This Code of Conduct serves as a guide for all members in the discharge of their professional duties and responsibilities, ensuring that the practice of digital marketing in Nigeria reflects global excellence and ethical leadership.


1. Professional Integrity

Members shall:

  • Uphold the principles of honesty, fairness, and transparency in all professional dealings.

  • Avoid misleading clients, employers, or the public through false claims, exaggerated results, or unethical marketing practices.

  • Refuse to engage in activities that may bring the Institute or the profession into disrepute.


2. Competence and Continuous Learning

Members shall:

  • Maintain a high level of professional knowledge and skill through continuous learning and participation in CPD (Continuing Professional Development) programs.

  • Provide services only within their areas of competence and refer clients to other professionals when appropriate.

  • Embrace innovation, technology, and global best practices to enhance marketing outcomes.


3. Responsibility to Clients and Employers

Members shall:

  • Place the interests of clients and employers above personal gain while maintaining professional independence and objectivity.

  • Protect confidential information obtained in the course of professional work, except where disclosure is authorized or legally required.

  • Deliver agreed services with due diligence, accuracy, and accountability.


4. Ethical Marketing and Advertising

Members shall:

  • Ensure all digital marketing communications are truthful, legal, and respectful.

  • Avoid deceptive advertising, plagiarism, data manipulation, or the use of unethical methods to gain unfair competitive advantage.

  • Respect intellectual property rights and give credit where due.


5. Respect and Non-Discrimination

Members shall:

  • Treat all individuals, clients, colleagues, and the public with respect and dignity.

  • Avoid discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, or social status.

  • Promote diversity and inclusion within the digital marketing community.


6. Confidentiality and Data Protection

Members shall:

  • Comply with data protection laws and regulations when handling customer data.

  • Obtain consent before collecting, using, or sharing personal information.

  • Implement best practices in cybersecurity to safeguard sensitive data.


7. Conflict of Interest

Members shall:

  • Disclose any potential conflict of interest that may affect impartial judgment or professional decisions.

  • Avoid accepting benefits, gifts, or favors that could compromise professional integrity.

  • Refrain from using their position in the Institute for personal or political advantage.


8. Accountability to the Institute

Members shall:

  • Abide by the rules, regulations, and policies of the Institute at all times.

  • Support the Institute’s mission, participate actively in its programs, and promote its reputation.

  • Cooperate fully with any disciplinary inquiry or investigation conducted by the Institute.


9. Disciplinary Action

Members found in violation of this Code shall be subject to disciplinary measures as provided by the Institute’s governing council. Sanctions may include suspension, withdrawal of membership, or other penalties deemed appropriate.


10. Commitment

By accepting membership of the Nigeria Institute of Digital Marketing (NIDM), every member agrees to uphold this Code of Conduct and to act in a manner that reflects professionalism, ethical excellence, and the values of the Institute.
